Fossil corals are the fossilized remnants of ancient coral reefs. The striking pattern of a fossil coral is determined by the particular species of coral that became fossilized. Fossil coral can be found all over the world – anywhere that an ancient ocean existed! We love cream colored fossil coral because it goes with everything. The different colors of the naturally colored material are determined by their level of exposure to ground water and the amount of iron and other minerals in that ground water. The red and rose colored fossil coral is spectacular – the rich burnt red and dark rosy pink colors, achieved with dye, really emphasize the natural coral pattern.
